What are we designing to? Emtek asks stakeholders for information on expectations. Designs can then be developed to meet these impact expectations in terms of pressure and deflection. This information goes into a performance work statement (PWS) that all designs in plan adhere to. For example, no more than 8” max deflection and 4” edge deflection. Getting this information can be difficult but it’s important for meeting permitting in sensitive areas. Gravel access and commodity mats may be placed in areas where metrics for impact and performance are not needed; however, in wetland sites, for example, performance-rated access (PRA) solutions may be necessary to meet permits or environmental guidelines.
